Large Toy Beads : 10 Steps (with Pictures) - cuthbertsonsheast
Introduction: Large Toy Beads
My daughter got lacing string of beads as a gift that consisted of square toes and various round beads she could lace onto a cosmic string for fun and hand-eye coordination practice. I thought it would represent diverting to addendum her countersink with some strange shapes and letters. For my tutorial, I'll present you how I intentional alphabet beads and made a few another molded beads using Tinkercad. You can print any of the designs yourself, or use this instructor as a manoeuvre for creating your own.
Equally with whatsoever home-brewed (operating theatre store bought) kids toy, make sure you are comfortable with them using it. The string of beads are pretty big and shouldn't be a choking hazard, but the edges throne comprise sharp.

Pace 1: Tinkercad Files
On that point are and then many letters and shapes and since you can't print them all at once anywhere, I'm not uploading them present. Instead, delight copy and fiddle with my designs happening Tinkercad so you can download and print the ones you want. If you really want me to upload certain letters or shapes together Here, let me know and I will if it leave make things easier for you.
Maltreat 2: Sizing
Before I got started I wanted to know what sized I would be on the job with so I measured a couple of the string of beads from the set she got. I measured the biggest (square and cylinder) and smallest (rounded one).
Sizes:
- Piston chamber: 1.5" tall and 1.36" in diameter
- Square: 1.375" squared
- Rounded: 1" tall and 1.375" in diameter
Then I had to settle on a mess size of it which I used a caliper for. It was about 0.467" in diam.
Lastly, approximately of the beads were going to require an additional cylinder in them to form the bead work. I really just randomly made a large cylinder but for specifics sake, that piston chamber is 0.6" in diameter.
Now that we have sizes, IT's time to start out making the beads.
Measure 3: Basic Letters
I started with the A and used that to assistant Maine decide along the size up of the beads. The A ended dormie being 1.282" squared.
From on that point they are every last different lengths and widths but they are all the similar heights which is 1.282".
[I need to remark I secondhand the case-by-case letters from the Tinkercad designs and not the Textual matter ones. I wanted the letter of the alphabet big/blocky. Also, I added a top and bottom line to the I (like I did when I successful my Word Crayons) so it would be a bit more interesting than hardly a straight line.]
When it comes to qualification these letter beads there are two types, those that just need a hole, and those that need a hole and cylinder. (Some can actually be done either way too.)
To start, we are going to do ones that only really want the hole. Those canful be ones such as I, J, T, A, etc.
The very basic ones have straight sides so much atomic number 3 M, N, O.
You can do this for many of the letters, but for some you have to have an additional tube inside of them for them to work and print right. You potty actually add up a subway to all of them if you want and I do provide them, just IT's optional for some. Succeeding we'll talk about adding a tube.
Step 4: Letters With Tube
Care I mentioned, you can add a tube to all of them arsenic it makes information technology much easier to lace the string finished them. If in that respect are holes the chain can go eccentric and cause issues, so now we'll talk well-nig adding a underground.
Letters with straight sides are easy as all you need to exercise is tote up the muddle, a cylinder that is the exact breadth of the missive, and then just line them up and aggroup them unneurotic, such Eastern Samoa the M above (or H, F, E etc)
If the sides are sloping or disciform, it can be more tricky to get a fast edge.
We're going to do the R, since it's rather a weird one.
- To start you indigence 2 of your letter the right hand size, a cylinder & a tube hole, and a rectangle.
Start with your rectangle the same height as the letter and align one of letters (as a hole) to be dead centre of the rectangle (existence nonviable center is important).
Group them thus you have a rectangle with the letter cut out.
Take an additional shape and cut out anything in the way in the center of the letter of the alphabet, this is anything that will interfere with the tube later. Make sure you preceptor't cut into the edges of the missive like on the suitable where the R dips in.
Make this rectangle (with the letter cut out) into a hole.
Now line everything up so the rectangle you just made, the letter, the hole out tube and the cylinder. (if you didn't find the letter with the rectangle before, this one North Korean won't aline right).
Group them and you'll have your varsity letter! As you can see the tube should go nicely through the center of the letter of the alphabet and it should queue up nicely along both sides.
Act this for every letter that inevitably it. You butt really do this for all the letters. There are sole a few that you can't have it off with As they are already so basic in their shape (like I and J).
Some letters are harder to do than others (such equally S and C) just I already did them so you're set ;)
Step 5: Other Shapes
Any other shapes you do will be cooked in the same ways I retributive described. I really but cut a pickle in all of these except for the butterfly which I gave a tube.
I victimised a flower, dally, car (a bod I brought in) and two different diamonds (they are sporting homeward-bound differently just to see how they would turn out).
Step 6: Print
From each one letter and contour takes active an hr to print with 15% infill.
Many you can black and white without plump for only some testament require it. The ones that need IT volition be the tubes that are just hanging in that respect like the C shown supra.
I only did support from the base plate as that's all you really need. You don't need support inside the tube and it volition just equal a plenty to clean up indeed I recommend clicking that setting for whatsoever slicer you use.
At one time you take each your beads you can go rightfield ahead and use them or rouge them.
Step 7: Atomizer Paint
I needed to be able to paint these outside so I set up a couple boxes with a nylon yarn suspending them. I sessile the thread to popsicle sticks which allowed me to easy attach them to the box Oregon eluding them off so I can reuse them.
I cut off the two side flaps so they wouldn't go in the mode and swerve slits in order to draw the nylon through.
I left the top and bottom flap on so I could partially close them and hold up any dirt off the pieces while they dry. I used an ageing pan to keep apart the loge mostly closed so some bare filtered in but hopefully no more dirt.
Follow the directions on your paint and paint them and seal them.
One thing to keep in mind is it is very hard to perplex the spray into whatsoever holes in the string of beads. You can just take over it and have it just not be 100% perfect (care ME) or genuinely spray into the sides to get those holes filled.
Your cry out.
Give them plenty of metre to dry before giving them to some kids.
The sealant is supposed to be not-unhealthful (which is wherefore I use of goods and services it), just still exist elaborated about kids putt them in their mouths.
Step 8: String
This is good a monitor that you need a string to lace these string of beads along. I recommend using something that is sturdy, bulky, and doesn't international nautical mile well. So, none yarn, embroidery floss, anything like that. I suggest using a sweatshirt drawstring, paracord, or shoelaces. If it has a unshakable tip that is ideal.
In the mental picture preceding the Marxist same is the one that came with the lacing beads my daughter got and the other cardinal are a shoe lace (pink) and sweatshirt string (navy) and as you send away see, they are all pretty similar.
Tread 9: Done
Present is a look at the A with the shapes that came in the astragal set. The colors, surprisingly, matched up pretty well with the set I had. Except for the blue which I wasn't dumbstricken nearly as my flatboat low-spirited stopped up working in the mediate of spraying and I ended up acquiring a darker blue online.
And here is a look at a C with a tube and without. With great care you can ensure how they turn out differently. One big affair is if information technology doesn't have a tube information technology wish flop around on the string more Eastern Samoa cured as the nontube one being harder to string.
Step 10: Ruined Beads
Just now some more pictures of the patterned beads.
